5 Tips For Event Videographers

1) If you're uncertain, opt for all-black attire. Avoid wearing a bright colors while filming, as it can be distracting and appear unprofessional. Aim to blend into the background as much as possible.

2) Shoot as much slow-mo as you can. My ratio is 70% slow-mo, 30% regular speed. It makes everything look a bit more dreamy, and it gives you more options in post.

3) Wider is better. I tend to shoot fairly wide at events. It allows the whole space to be captured. I mainly walk around with a 16-35mm lens. I still get close-up shots and detail shots, but shooting wide makes sure you don't miss any of the action.

4) Film first, ask questions later. If I see a person or group having fun or doing something cool, I just start filming them. If I want them to do something specific, I will ask them to, but I find asking permission takes them out of the moment and makes the shot seem less authentic.

5) Time lapses make for great cutaways in the edit. If you have time, set up a simple 10-minute time lapse. You'll thank yourself in the edit.

I hope these tips can help you on your next event video shoot!
